On its 14th mission on June 29, 1995, the Space Shuttle Atlantis became the first shuttle to dock with the Russian Space Station MIR. It was also the 100th U.S. manned space mission. Atlantis transported cosmonauts Anatoly Solovyev and Nikolai Budarin to MIR, while picking up astronaut Norman Thagard and cosmonauts Vladimir Dezhurov and Gennady Strekalov to bring them back to earth.
