FOTD: Who wanted to be the first Presidential assassin?

Published on February 24, 2011 by   ·   No Comments

Andrew Jackson

The first assassination attempt took place in 1835. The would be assassin was named Richard Lawrence. He confronted President Andrew Jackson in The Capitol with two pistols. He fired them both at close range, but both misfired. Lawrence was seized and declared insane, then committed to an asylum.

Now to explain the declaration of insanity. You see, Lawrence’s reason for trying to kill Jackson was because he felt that Jackson was keeping him from his rightful position as King of America!
