Saint Patrick

With St. Patrick’s Day being just a week away I will be posting at least one St. Pat’s related fact each day.

Today’s fact about St. Patrick’s Day is about why we celebrated the Patron Saint of Ireland on March 17th every year. It is believed that St. Patrick actually died on March 17, 461 A.D. Now you know why!

Although some might argue that since Saint Patrick helped convert a lot of Irish people to Christianity which meant they would then have to celebrate lent…perhaps celebrating the man on March 17th right in the middle of Lent was a good way to cheat a bit. Since on the 17th the Irish would be allowed to eat a traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage. BTW personally, Irish bacon and cabbage would be something I would gladly pass on every day, not just for Lent.
